Is There Really A Shortage of Dermatologists?

A recent news story airing on NBC reported a nationwide shortage of board certified dermatologists and cited the average waiting time for an appointment as a new patient is six weeks – even in instances where the new patient needs to be evaluated for a possible melanoma diagnosis.  According to Houston dermatologist, Stephen Mahoney, M.D., the number of dermatologists practicing full-time is lower than ideal, but the good news is the waiting time for new patient appointments is 1-2 weeks at West Houston Dermatology, and obviously less if the patient has an urgent condition such as melanoma or a suspicious growth.  All the patient needs to do is tell Dr. Mahoney’s professional and helpful staff if there is a medical emergency or priority.  To schedule your medical or cosmetic dermatology appointment today, contact West Houston Dermatology.
