Laser Hair Removal – How Long Does It Take?

At West Houston Dermatology Laser & Skincare Center, we use the Candela Gentlelase for laser hair removal because it is a safe and effective tool for removing hair from various areas of the body.  This is an alexandrite laser with features that enhance patient comfort by using a dynamic cooling device and a 18mm treatment spot size so that patients experience less laser pulses during treatment.  Many patients want to know how long it will take to see results from treatment.  For best results, patients generally require between 4-6 treatments, and with each treatment the patients typically notice gradual improvement with less hair regrowth, and that means less shaving, waxing and plucking.  A series of treatments is necessary because our hair follicles have varying growth cycles.  For instance, during a treatment, not all of the patient’s hair follicles are in an active growth cycle, which means the laser will not affect follicles that are not in an active growth cycle.  However, subsequent treatments will target that follicle and others.  Following each treatment, the patient will experience clearing of hair in the treatment area because the laser impedes the follicle’s ability to regrow hair.  However, there is a misconception that lasers remove 100% of the hair in the treated are.  While this is true for many of the hair follicles, many of the follicles will rebuild.  Nevertheless, laser hair removal does significantly impact the amount of hair that will regrow in the treatment area.  West Houston Dermatology & Laser Skincare Center offers packages of laser hair removal treatments so that each patient receives the optimum number of treatments to achieve their hair removal goals while also receiving the best value.  For more information on whether laser hair removal is the best option for you, contact our office.
