No Sweat!

Even though summer is still two months away, Houston is already experiencing those warm, humid days for which we’re known.  Unfortunately, this means increased sweating – whether we’re partaking in outdoor activities, or simply walking to and from the car.  For some individuals, this is not just a summer time inconvenience.  Excessive sweating is a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis, and depending on the severity of the condition, it can truly interfere with a person’s life.  They may use prescription antiperspirants, change their clothing several times a day, or even avoid social activities due to embarrassment.  At West Houston Dermatology Laser & Skincare Center, many of our patients have experienced success in the treatment of hyperhidrosis through BOTOX® injections. BOTOX® is injected into the area(s) to be treated, creating a temporary block in the nerves that trigger your sweat glands.  While most patients begin to notice a significant decrease in sweating within a few days, the full effect usually occurs within 6-8 weeks of treatment.   Though some may feel hesitant to get BOTOX® injections, Dr. Mahoney and his staff minimize any discomfort with topical anesthetics, and there is no downtime.  Most patients have a reduction in sweating for about six months, and some even longer.  This is an approved procedure for treating hyperhidrosis and depending on the patient’s insurance coverage, treatment of excessive sweating with BOTOX®  may be covered by health insurance.  For more information on BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis, please contact our office.
