Xtrac Laser Therapy for Psoriasis

Psoriasis can be miserable and extremely itchy, but the overwhelming urge to scratch the crusty plaques only makes them worse.  When you’re about to crawl out of your own skin from the itching and irritation, and when over the counter treatments have been unsuccessful, it’s time to see a board certified dermatologist for treatment.  In Houston Stephen Mahoney, M.D. of West Houston Dermatology is a top doctor for treating psoriasis patients.  Where indicated he can treat the patient using the XTRAC Laser.  Ideal candidates for XTRAC usually have mild to moderate psoriasis.  A carefully focused laser light beam 308 nanometers is used on the affected areas.  The light beam is designed to treat the plaque and provide rapid clearing without risk to the surrounding healthy skin.  If you are a candidate for XTRAC treatment, Dr. Mahoney will evaluate your skin type, location of plaques and plaque thickness before starting treatment.  For a typical patient, the laser treatment only takes a few minutes.  No anesthesia is required for XTRAC treatment as there is little to no discomfort.  Patients sometimes feel like the area treated received a mild sunburn.  XTRAC, unlike other psoriasis treatments, has very few disadvantages, and can be used in hard to treat areas such as the scalp, knees and elbows.  If you are struggling with your psoriasis treatment, contact West Houston Dermatology to schedule an appointment.
